Abstract

An electrocatalytic method has been developed for the indirect oxidation of vicinal diols and related compounds like hydroxyketones and aminoalcohols. The oxidative cleavage has been performed in a biphase system containing a phase transfer catalyst by periodate generated from iodate at a Pb-PbO2 electrode.
