Abstract

The structure of vanadium pentoxide supported on γ-alumina has been studied by high-resolution analytical microscopy and radial electron distribution (RED). The vanadium is found uniformly distributed over alumina. The interatomic distances obtained by RED indicate that the structure of vanadium pentoxide on alumina is different from bulk vanadium pentoxide. Its structure is described in terms of corner-sharing VO4 tetrahedra forming a flexible two dimensional array over the alumina surface.
