Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of CO on LnCoO3 (Ln- La, Nd, Sm, Gd) were studied in the temperature range 150 - 360°C. These systems show an abrupt gradient change in the Arrhenius plots for CO oxidation at about 200°C. The adsorption isobars constructed for the total amount of gas mixture adsorbed show either a maximum or a minimum at the same temperature, indicating that the change in the mode of adsorption of the reactants is the cause for the break in the Arrhenius plots. The effect of the initial rate of the reaction was studied and the intrinsic rate constants were calculated.
